The ICT Training and Digital Imaging Suites at the Buckinghamshire Teaching & Learning Centre

The ICT Training Suite

The ICT Suite at the Centre has RM's Intellidesks which house workstations with the new Intel® 945G chipset based RM Expert 3010 PC, which is the latest specialist performance PC incorporating the latest PC technologies, on a RM Community Connect 3 Network.
The Combination of Windows 2003 Server and XP workstations allows increased access speed to the network facilities as well as the flexibility of the XP operating system.
The Network has a range of software installed which allows the Team to deliver training for CPD. The suite is also used for training by the Consultancy Teams based at the Buckinghamshire Teaching and Learning Centre and by partner organisations for occasional focus evenings.

Have you ever worked with ICT and Art and been frustrated by the inability of your printer to produce images no bigger than A4, or tried to edit a digital video only to find that your PC hasn’t got the right software or just can’t cope with the amount of data?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of these, or indeed if you just want to explore the possibilities of working with multimedia, then I am sure that you will welcome the announcement that the Buckinghamshire Digital Imaging suite is now fully equipped and available for use.

With generous sponsorship from Epson (UK) and with further support from XMA Ltd we have been able to install a range of high quality Digital Imaging equipment at the ICT Centre (located within the Teaching and Learning Centre in Aylesbury). The Digital Imaging Suite provides Buckinghamshire schools with ‘state of the art’ video and still image processing capabilities. Colleagues are invited to visit the Teaching and Learning Centre to use the equipment to edit their still or moving images on high spec. PCs using a wide range of educational and industry standard software.

Input can be from a wide range of sources such as floppy disc, digital video tape, CD, DVD, memory stick, email, or even just scanned in using the scanner available in the suite. After processing, output can be made to a similar range of devices, but also to one of several available Epson colour laser and inkjet printers, including a wide carriage device allowing large format images to be produced.

The Suite is offered for booking by individuals or small groups although it may also be used as part of courses run within our CPD offering, so it is always worth ringing the centre to check its availability. There is no charge for using the Suite, although any media costs will have to be charged to users.

The Buckinghamshire Digital Imaging Suite is one of only two in the country to be sponsored by Epson (the other being at the Royal Academy in London) and will provide Buckinghamshire schools with a most valuable resource which will undoubtedly enhance the creativity of our pupils.

The Digital Imaging Suite is currently supporting over 25 Buckinghamshire schools and has produced over 700 large scale prints during the academic year of 2007. For more information contact Pat Cragg on 01296 334994.
