A Local History Study

Planning: Objectives

• Children and staff would have an ideal opportunity to do a real research-based project, based upon already good practice. However, the research would involve fieldwork, and research using primary and secondary sources, along with ICT, which would introduce many new skills and concepts to the children.

• Members of staff at each school would consistently monitor standards. For example, we could build up portfolios of the children's work, and match them to national curriculum levels/attainment targets. The children would also, using ICT, be able to monitor the standards of work that were being produced. Self-evaluation would be an important part of the process.

• New schemes of work would be produced, their content having been monitored by the relevant teachers and/all advisory service Other curriculum areas -- e.g. music, Art etc would benefit in the long-term. Work already being covered in the literacy hour would be incorporated into the scheme of work (e.g. report writing, etc) Creating a useful resource for the local community, in the form of a web site.
