Project background

Aims and description

  • To make animations using Macromedia Flash
  • To design and make interactive maths games similar to 10 Clicks.com.

These will cover aspects of the maths curriculum especially number and shape and space.

Project Outcomes

Here is the Flash Presentation of work that the pupils produced Click on the NEXT Button to proceed through the screens.

This presentation requires the Flash Player which can be downloaded by following this link

Evaluation

In order for success in Flash you need time to practice and the willingness to have a go and to try things out. The project for Edlesborough was a success but the time to produce the work was limited, with the continued use of Flash in school, the pupils will be able to produce a wider variety of things.

The animation stage worked well but the most interesting aspect of the project was the making of the games. The games stage not only had the benefit of using ICT but helped to reinforce the pupil's knowledge of maths. The level of maths was easily differentiated depending on the pupils' abilities. The games that were produced could then be played by the rest of the class or by other year groups especially when linked to an interactive whiteboard. The only difficulty that occurred during the games stage was the time to develop templates for the games (I also upgraded to Flash 5 as this helped to make the programming easier). For this reason I would suggest that this aspect of the project could be transferred in a cut down state to other programs ie. Word/ Hyperstudio*. However, if you are happy with simple programming then working with this aspect of Flash 5 is fairly easy.

I hope this has been of some use for you; the presentation has lots of examples of work and ideas that we tried out.

* For Word use the web page option and create different links for answers.
