Macromedia Flash contains an animation studio in addition to being a multimedia authoring package and web design tool. This project aimed to:

• Develop higher order thinking and reasoning skills through the use of this creative package
• Provide a stimulus for more able pupils
• Facilitate primary/secondary progression
• Provide opportunities for collaborative working

The intention was for a secondary and feeder school to work together. In the event only one of the secondary schools found a partner.

A Consultant - Geoff Dellow - who had worked with a number of schools, previously, was employed to start the project off and provide support as lesson planning developed.

The schools in this project were expected:

• To learn the program well using a self-tuition CD.
• To participate in planning and follow-up sessions with the Consultant.
• To plan and teach a project using the software, setting suitable criteria for evaluation
• To evaluate the outcomes of the project
• To provide additional time for pupils to follow up activities e.g. through a computer club

Geoff Dellow has been using Macromedia Flash 4 with schools for four years and summarises his work:

"We have found that it promotes creativity both artisitically, in writing and in problem solving. The way we use it, with our own templates, enables a wide range of abilities to succeed in our projects, providing a very challenging and rewarding experience for our students"
